January 2009

Ever have one of those days you dread? When you know it is going to be a non stop workathon, and though lovely for your budget and that trip to Iceland, emotionally its going to be an overhaul and lead to tears and investigations into the first ticket out and moving pods. Instead the day flies by, everyone is beyond pleasant, you actually find yourself loving your work, your students AND your adopted home (please take note, that while 2 out of 3 may occur at anytime, it is the rare day I am all three, especailly with my wanderlust), and despite working almost 10 hours all you feel is content? I just need to note that because next time it may be tears.

Enjoy Dylan Moran taking the piss from the Germans. Today I use it out of love, and my complete and utter lack of command of the language.

Episode 4 is out! And by she drops her bike I mean I can barely get on it before I drop it. I do not hide my embarrassing moments but rather flaunt them for to see! My friend has a great signature to her emails:

“It is true that by playing too much with fire, we take a risk, but we also take a chance: we might get burned, but we might also amaze and enlighten.”
–Robert Lepage

I agree, its my moto for life, and if on that video I sound like an idiot (I had no idea I was such a rambler - ok well to THAT extent of a rambler the German insists its part of my charm), I love that we have this record of what has easily been the most amazing experiences of my life.

I am not above wishing the 15 pounds I lost soon after this video never came back however. :P But rather than fat burners, I am at the gym, and I have cut down shoko. Cuba in less than 3 months!

heh heh, I thought that would get some people going. ;) But seriously, she makes me want to eat her up.

She is 2 and a half and says everything. By everything I mean EVERYTHING. Some classics just while I was there:

She was at daycare and upset that a little boy was crying all day. her words of wisdom ” Stop your squeaming. Your mom works, my mom works. They come get us later. Now you just hurt my ears.”

Or a morning after I was drinking and mom had her over night. I requested that she not be allowed in to wake me up, so mom told her I was at work. She then saw mu nurse, pointed at it and cried “Nanny! there is Sherrrie’s purse, you cant go to work without your purse, I think she is just sleeping.”

No Bamboo Blinds over this ones eyes!

I was just on the phone with my father who proudly announced that there are just 81 days to Cuba (could he be looking forward to it a little?), of course he then announced that it was also - 17 outside. That could push someone to make a count down. I was incredibly lucky. While I was in Newfoundland Germany suffered from their coldest winter in about 20 years with - 17. And now that I am back in Germany Newfoundland is down to minus 17. Ha ha suckas!!!!! In other Cuba news, if you read over on Gypsy you know that I was stressed about the gaining of 15 pounds back while surrounded by food denied to me for over 2 years. Well without the aid of diet pills Ive lost 4 pounds this week just be eating normally. And by normal I mean salads with every meal and pasta and pizza is still included. So umm yeah, cheesecake for breakfast, followed by chocolate for snacks, fish and chips for dinner, cookies and then take out pizza plus wine and beer with friends causes weight gain. Go figure. ;)

So I am now home again, or at least the German version of it. Perhaps it is like Lon said, you have the parental home, and then you need to find your own home. At first I felt a little like a traitor, and then I realized its just part and parcel of growing up. For one with itchy feet like mine however it becomes scary however to think that maybe some other place could have, and did become home. Now if I could just master the language all would be good! Anyway this was just a quick update, a digital signage if you will, that I am back online, and starting to update, and visit as well! I am also trying to catch up with friends here, work and adjust to the fact that Sunday I was still on a plan and as of Monday evening I was back to full classes. Anyway, now I am off to work again, but I hope tonight to have some down time for blog visiting and long email writing!
