November 2008

Again not ignoring anyone but busy busy busy! In addition to working like a mad woman, my friend from Canada is visiting, and so the time I do have I am trying my best to show her a great time! I promise to download the pictures from Budapest this weekend off of my flash memory, again I just need to do it. My laptop does not have the neat little card holder that some others do, and it is a MUST for my next laptop, because hunting down cords has become a pain. This is a new height of laziness for me I know, that I want to just slide the card in rather than take the extra minute required to take out the cord, plug it in, and then download the pics. :P

Either way, Im alive. ;)

A friend of mine here has been insisting that I watch Top Gear, a show about cars out of Britain. This sounded to me like an excuse to scratch my eyes out, and the pour some salt in there for good measure. ITS AWESOME, ok some of them are not so great, the honest review parts being where I tune out, but the challenges are hilarious, and I am trying to figure out how to justify this in a class, because I think its too hard and has nothing to do with banking, but is almost as much fun as a playstation 3 (and seeing the facebook feeds of the people Im friends with, that is quite the statement indeed)

Here is part one:

Nicole arrives tomorrow and I have yet to buy a new camera! Seriously, we are off to Budapest this weekend, and Barcelona next, and though while I am sure I can swing Patricks camera this weekend, the weekend after that while us girls head to Barcelona he is off to Austria for a ski weekend, and will probably want his own camera.

My Sony is more or less destroyed, and so I need to break down and get my own camera again. I know I do not want his, and Im thinking of the Canon Powershot, because that is what I had in Asia and I loved it, before my ex left it on a bus stop and walked away.

Episode 4 is still being slugged out, but Andy - the guy who takes all our footage, organizes it, cuts it, and sets it to music - has decided to make mini specials out of some of the material he hasn’t used. They are short, sweet, and be sure to watch the very end for the moral of the story. ;)

(It is also great just to listen to Patrick speak more like a Newfoundlander than I do). ;)

This is some kind of miracle drug! Lipovox states that it is a weight loss pill, BUT it also states that it also helps with your complexion, as in fights acne and wrinkles. This would make this some type of miracle drug. And why was the rest of the world not informed of it before now? It states it is super foods blended up and mixed into one capsule. I still want to know why everyone wasn’t told about this.

A friend sent me a link for Mongrel Nation, which is basically Eddie Izzard talking about the development of the English language. And as I am checking out diet pill reviews, I was happy for the chance to procrastinate. (In this case not for myself, but long story and you wouldn’t be interested in it). BUT, long story short, English being a Germanic language he makes the leap that if he speaks old English then other people who speak Germanic languages will be able to follow him.

Even longer story shorter, he sounds like ME speaking German. Word order and all. Turns out Ive been speaking old English the entire time I thought I had some basic German skills.

:P

The highlight of the week was giving my class their test. We have completed 4 units of work, and it was time to find out who has been doing their homework and who has been giving it to their kids to do for them.

It began with way you would expect with kiddies, lots of moaning, groaning and grumbling that it was way too hard and beyond what they could handle (only everyone in the room was older than me). ;) It ended with 5 out of the 9 walking away with 90% or above, and the lowest grade being a 67% Since I didn’t make the test but rather used the test supplied by the Oxford people to accompany their text book, I’m pretty proud of them, and also of myself. No, not necessarily my ability to teach, but rather the fact that what Ive been saying about giving them difficult material has been true all along. You don’t learn when you just refresh the stuff you already know! :P

In other news I am still debating if its cheaper to buy eyeglasses off the internet in Canadian dollars, or to break down and invest the Euros, but at least I know when I walk out what I look like. (To the best of my nearsighted abilities that is). :P

Yup, in other words things are still really low key at the moment. :P This should change next week when my friend from high school comes to visit and we head to Budapest. I think I may be spoiled….

I found a link for a pain pump, and honestly I thought they were talking about the self inflicted masochism of teaching, (it was that kind of day, actually it was just one class, but Germany is not a place that forgives mistakes, and in a fit of non caffeinated dyslexia, I wrote because be cause, they jumped on me and doubted every other word I said the rest of the morning). Turns out it is in fact a common lawsuit.

It feels like the weekend did not even start and tomorrow work begins again. Gack, last night at a party I ran into an old colleague who is moving (looking into companies for mover NYC in fact, shes not moving down the block), but who asked how does it feel to be back at work all the time after 3 months of waking up every morning and driving. The funny thing is, we were up most mornings between 6 30 and 7 with no effort. We did not set the alarm, there was no need, and yet we were awake. I use to think it was the sun, but even on gray mornings we were able to do it. So its just work that makes waking up in the mornings hard!

This is all Tracey´s fault for showing me this site and I just lost an hour of productive time. :P  I do so hope this is a joke.
